With a 15 per cent jump in the non-performing assets (NPAs) in the last financial year (2017-18), the quantum of bad loans in both private and public sector banks of Gujarat has ballooned to a phenomenal Rs 35,220 crore. According to the latest report of the State Level Banker’s Committee (SLBC), Gujarat, which was released here on Thursday evening in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, the increasing bad loans in priority sectors, like those extended to the MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises , has contributed to the jump in the overall NPAs of the banks.

The conference, titled ‘Forensic Aid: Enabling Right to Fair Trial & Legal Aid’ at the state police headquarters in Lucknow, was attended by the judges of the Allahabad High Court, legal luminaries, forensic experts, police officers and academics.

The bank had filed applications with the markets regulator to seek exemption on behalf of its promoter. Subsequently, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) in an order passed on Tuesday, said there would be no change in the management control post equity infusion in the bank and the infusion of additional capital will enable PNB to meet the stipulated capital adequacy norms.

Talking about the same, Dr Aditya S Chowti, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, Bangalore said, “There are multiple factors behind the surge in Covid-19 cases in India. It is primarily because of the mutation of the virus that takes place, hence, people are susceptible to these kinds of new variants.
