With WhatsApp’s popularity in India — it has close to 400 million users — it has become an effective platform for rumours and fake messages to quickly spread.  This is also what prompted WhatsApp to limits forwarding of messages to just five chats, and introducing restrictions in Groups where only admins can post a message.

TWO DAYS after the headmaster of a government school died allegedly by suicide in Sultanpur district, a case was registered on Thursday against the local Block Education Officer (BEO) on the basis of a complaint by the family members of the deceased. They alleged that the headmaster, Surya Prakash Dwivedi (52), consumed a poisonous substance after he was “admonished” by BEO Manojit Rao, police said.
