On Wednesday, the state government issued an order directing Dr Vinayak Kale, the Dean of B J Government Medical College, to proceed on compulsory leave in the wake of the Pune Porsche car crash case. The action was taken within an hour of Dr Kale addressing a press conference where he said he had no role to play in the appointment of Dr Ajay Taware as medical superintendent and had followed instructions of the state Medical Education Minister to do so. Dr Taware has been arrested along with another doctor and a Class IV staffer for their alleged involvement in the case. Dr Kale was unavailable for comment despite repeated calls.
