Dr Swati Gaikwad, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Motherhood Hospital, Pune explained that during pregnancy, women undergo various hormonal changes, which can affect their taste buds, smell, and generate the constant urge to eat a particular food. “Food cravings are sudden urges to eat a particular food or beverage, and if these cravings are not satisfied it can result in frustration and irritation. Cravings usually start to develop from the first trimester and subside around the second trimester. These cravings can sometimes go beyond expectation and lead one to eat food they hated or tried to avoid,” said Dr Gaikwad.
