WhatsApp’s new privacy policy was responsible for many events in the last few months. Department of Financial Services (DFS) has decided to approach the revenue department to clear the confusion over levy of GST on some of the free services offered by banks to its customers. The department is of the opinion that services such as issuance of cheque books, account statements and ATM withdrawals are free up to a certain limit and not commercial activities which can be brought under the ambit of GST, Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Kumar said here. “This issue of imposition of GST on some of the free services offered by banks to its customers will be taken up with the revenue department and we hope to resolve the issue soon,” he said.
