A case was registered recently at the Cyber Crime police station of Central Crime Station in Hyderabad based on a complaint from a senior citizen who lost Rs 30 lakh to an online scamster. The complainant had searched online for agencies offering loans to construct a house and received a call from someone who introduced himself as an executive with Reliance Capital, the police said. As he was offered the loan, the fraudsters collected up to Rs 30 lakh in various instalments towards charges like registration fees, processing fees, contingency development charges, GST, income tax etc. He approached the police upon realising that he had been cheated when the executives started to avoid his calls.
